...if it doesn't come, you can ask for a mistrial (I got out of a ticket this way once). If it comes, then ask to talk to the ADA and see if you can resolve the ticket before the court date (tell them you're out of town at that time). By reducing the caseload of the court, often they'll drop the charge down somewhat (been there, done that). Don't know if the situation is the same in Canada, but that's always worked for me here in NY.
